Edward Dickinson

Ed is the latest and youngest addition to Walk Japan's expanding team of experts. Born and bred in the UK, Ed is descended from a Japanese samurai aristocrat family whose history can be traced back almost 1000 years. When Ed left school he went to Japan for a year to properly explore his samurai roots for the first time. On his travels he realised that one visit would not nearly satisfy his fascination for the country and determined to return one day.

In 2007, after graduating in Philosophy from Newcastle University, Ed moved to London and worked in the music industry, fulfilling a long held dream. Ed was trained classically in music from an early age and as a member of Westminster Cathedral Choir he toured Europe, sang at the BBC Proms and has appeared on numerous recordings.

Ed returned to Japan in 2008. After brief spells working in finance and the music industry it became clear to him that his abundant energy and deep interest in Japanese culture and nature were not being satisfied. Ed duly joined Walk Japan.

Ed enjoys listening to music, playing the guitar and, a recent passion, singing karaoke. He is also a keen rugby player, fly fisherman and, having been brought up in the English countryside, is interested in all outdoor pursuits. His active life in Japan includes leading tours and he is a core member of Walk Japan's community project.
